A Presentation on the Breath Act

Health Care for All – LA will join the Muslim Delegates and Allies (MD&A) on Tuesday, March 2, at 6 PM (PST) as co-sponsors for a conversation with Dr. Melina Abdullah, co-founder of Black Lives Matter-LA, Gina Clayton-Thompson, founder and Executive Director of Essie Justice Group, and the co-author of the Breathe Act, and Chair of the Legislative Progressive Caucus, Assemblymember Ash Kalra to learn more about the visionary bill authored by Movement for Black Lives to divest our taxpayer dollars from brutal and discriminatory policing and invest in a new vision of public safety.

On Tuesday, we will remember Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Natasha McKenna, George Floyd, Aiyana Stanley-Jones, Elijah McClain, Pearlie Golden, Kayla Moore, Freddie Gray, Atatiana Jefferson, Oscar Grant, and honor the lives of those taken by state-sanctioned violence and Police. We will also discuss the role the Progressive State of California must play in order to ensure that this vision comes to reality.

HCA-LA leadership team member Hanieh Jodat will be joined by co-host Ben Hauck , Political Director of Public Bank LA and Nadia B. Ahmad , Chairwoman and co-founder of MD&A (Florida) to discuss a call to action.

FEBRUARY 25th AT 11:00 AM SOS is organizing a follow-up press conference and “car picket”
SOS is organizing a follow-up press conference and “car picket”Outside the kei-Ai Nursing home, also owned by Pacifica,  in Lincoln Heights.
SOS believes that Pacifica plans to transfer residents from Sakura Gardens, where there has been no documented case of COVID, to Kei-Ai, where tragically 111 residents have died from COVID.
The Feb. 25 protest will demand that Pacifica:
       (a) Not evict or transfer any seniors in their “Intermediate Care Facilities,” including at Sakura Gardens, during the pandemic; 
       (b) Stop all new COVID admissions at Kei-Ai.
HCA-LA supports the Feb. 25 SOS car care-a-van protest and we hope you can make it. Maureen Cruise will be speaking at the event to show our concern for this unethical and heartless treatment of Seniors and their families. Maureen will share how Single Payer could help prevent many of these abuses of the elderly by private for profit corporations. . Long term care for elders at our most vulnerable is something that every family faces. Each of us will most likely be in need of assistance some day. Every day
10,000 people turn 65. We must reform this system.  Now we must act. Please come and support the Kei-Ai residents and their families. Let’s show up in greater numbers for the “car picket” and honk even louder!

SINGLE PAYER AB1400 – Let’s Get it Done!!

We’re excited to announce that the state single payer bill sponsored by the California Nurses Association, the California Guaranteed Health Care for All Act, was introduced in the State Assembly today.

To catch you up: California can create its own version of a Medicare for All system to guarantee high quality health care to every resident. This new bill in California, A.B. 1400, does just that. 
 
Nurses feel the urgency of this demand now more than ever, as the pandemic only worsened our deeply broken health care system. The nurses of CNA have fought for decades for guaranteed health care for all both in California and at the federal level, and that fight continues today.
 

Our mission is to pass this bill – and, in order to do it, we need your help Maureen. Will you RSVP for our emergency strategy call on Thursday, February 25, at 5:00pm PT to lay out the game plan to pass this bill?

 

There are 80 members of the State Assembly and 40 members of the State Senate. We need to make sure that every single member hears from their constituents and knows that Californians demand health care justice and are ready to lead the way for the rest of the country.  
 
This pandemic has made it abundantly clear that our current health care system is broken, and half-measure reforms are not enough. California can be the leader, but we’re up against some very powerful interests that will fight us tooth and nail to keep the status quo.But if supporters like you step up across all 58 counties in California, we know we can win. 
 

The fight for single-payer health care in California is not new – in 2017, a single-payer bill passed the State Senate but was stalled in the Assembly. Now with Democrats in control of both the federal and state governments, the urgency of an unprecedented health care crisis, and the determination of activists and organizers all across the state, we have a real pathway to victory.

 

Through this bill, we can put into place a health care system that guarantees health care to everyone in California regardless of health, immigration status, income, or anything else. 

No copays, deductibles, or premiums. No more in-network or out-of-network. Comprehensive medical services. The freedom to choose whatever doctor you want.

Currently Ms. Harris is an administrator serving as a regional manager of Inpatient Care Management, facilitating the coordination of patient services across the continuum of health care needs.  Jeanna is a member of the Health Care for All – Los Angeles Leadership Team.

The purpose of this vigil is to honor those who have passed away from COVID-19 and demand that Governor Newsom have CA lead the Nation with Single Payer Health Care now.  HCA-LA will be collaborating with the People’s Rose Parade in a media press conference at the Rose Bowl Parade HQ in Pasadena followed by a funeral procession the length of the Parade route.
